Smiler may not be up there with Dizzee Rascal and Tinie Tempah when it comes to UK rap royalty, but no other MC (British or American) can claim to have had Lana Del Rey sing the chorus on their track.
The London-based rapper actually recorded the track back in 2010 and was lucky enough to be recording next door to Del Rey and invited her to sing the track’s hook, which is a cover of Shirly Bassey’s ‘Big Spender’.
As luck would have it, this chance collaboration may well be a turning point for Smiler, and he’s been canny enough to wait ’til now, arguably at the top of Lana Del Rey’s hype, to drop his mixtape ‘All I Know’, which features the track ‘Spender’ that Del Rey blessed with her vocals.
