Christina Aguilera has today officially debuted her new single, ‘Your Body,’ and quelle surprise, it’s another raunchy slice of synth-pop.
Yes, despite 2008 Greatest Hits lead track ‘Keeps Getting Better’ and 2010’s Gaga rip-off ‘Not Myself Tonight’ flopping harder than Cristiano Ronaldo after a phantom tackle, the former squeaky-clean Disney Club star is once again aiming for the clubs with a blend of skittering R&B beats, sleazy synths and of course, the ubiquitous dub-step middle eight.
Written by the dream team of Savan Kotecha, Max Martin and Shellshock, the latter of which was co-responsible for Aguilera’s first proper hit in years, Maroon 5 collaboration ‘Moves Like Jagger,’ the track is the first release from her seventh studio album, ‘Lotus.’
Released on November 13th, the big-lunged star will be hoping it fares better than predecessor, ‘Bionic,’ which rather embarrassingly dropped 1-28 in the UK chart. But judging by her description of the record on Twitter, it certainly sounds like it might be more pretentious:
“Album title: Lotus. Representing an unbreakable flower that survives under the hardest conditions and still thrives. #YourBody.”
“There will be a ‘Lotus’ intro to set the tone for the whole record. Conceptually I didn’t target one particular sound/genre. Self expression and freedom [are album themes]. The album represents a rebirth for me.”
That’s all well and good but I think we’d all rather just have a song on there that was at least half as good as ‘Genie In A Bottle’ instead.
