David Guetta, Chris Brown & Lil Wayne debut ‘I Can Only Imagine’ video

It’s been a while since we’ve heard from the shy and retiring superstar DJ that is David Guetta. Probably all of five minutes in fact considering he’s become the go-to producer for nearly every artist who’s recently jumped on the ‘fun in the club’ electro bandwagon.

The ‘not at all remorseless’ Chris Brown and one of the vocoder’s biggest advocates, Lil Wayne, are the latest to join forces with the ubiquitous Frenchman on ‘I Can Only Imagine,’ yet another slice of heavily AutoTuned trance-pop which feels like it’s the 156th single from his current album, ‘Nothing But The Beat,’ but is in fact just the seventh.

Directed by Colin Tilley, the video is a futuristic Tron-inspired affair which sees Guetta spinning the decks in a hologram control room, Brown performing in an electronic matrix and Lil Wayne showcasing his trademark slow drawl in front of a virtual skate park.

Whatever your views on the artists involved, it’s difficult to deny it’s a pretty spectacular looking promo. If only Guetta could transfer some of its invention to his music.
