Update, 20:00: Grohl has since posted an open letter to Foo Fighters’ Facebook page stating:
“Yes…I was serious. I’m not sure when the Foo Fighters are going to play again. It feels strange to say that, but it’s a good thing for all of us to go away for a while…sometimes it’s good to just… put it back in the garage for a while.”
Praise the Lord! Foo Fighters are NOT splitting up as feared!
On Saturday (September 29), the band were playing New York’s Central Park as part of the Global Citizen Festival, when front man, Dave Grohl, delivered the following speech:
“This is it, man. We don’t have any shows after this. This is the show where we come out and we play as many songs as we can in a short period of time, because honestly, I don’t know when we’re going to do it again. Last chance to dance!”
Grohl’s comments immediately sent the internet into meltdown, with fans speculating that the band were on the brink of split. Today (October 2), however, a spokesperson has stepped in to calm us all bloody down:
“They are definitely not breaking up.”
Short, simple and straight to the point – we like it! Plus now we can all stop biting our nails!
Still, this isn’t the first time Grohl has had us doubting Foo Fighters’ future. While headlining Reading Festival in August, the rock legend delivered another suspect statement:
“You guys realise we’ve got a lot of songs to play. It’s the last show of the tour and it’s the last show for a long time.”
However, Grohl denied the band were disbanding on Twitter a few days later:
Jeesh! Relax…..I was only talking TO England!! ABOUT England…Stop eavesdropping internets!
