Wouter De Becker, the 31-year-old chart topper better known as Gotye, has revealed to the BBC that he wouldn’t mind collaborating with Katy Perry, although fans may have to wait for any new material.
The Australian-Belgian singer-songwriter is currently riding high at the top of the UK charts for the third non-consecutive week at number 1, thanks in part to a huge level of support via Facebook, YouTube and Twitter. Celebrities such as Ashton Kutcher, Lily Allen and Katy Perry have all been praising his hit single ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’. Gotye remarked on his success:
“I didn’t write the song attempting for it to be a hit single or to be a pop song or an attempt to topple the charts. Through YouTube and Facebook it’s a song that has resonated with people. I’m proud of that.”
When asked about the celebrity support he’s garnered, Gotye went on to state:
“I’ve been asked about that a lot, usually Ashton Kutcher and Katy Perry tweeting about the track. I must say I do quite like a lot of Katy Perry’s tracks. It would be weird and interesting if I collaborated with an artist like that.”
However, given that it’s been nine years since his debut album, Gotye’s in no hurry to follow up the success with another album any time soon:
“I don’t have a follow-up to Making Mirrors and probably won’t do another Gotye record for another two or three years.”
We’ll have to make do with Gotye’s ‘Making Mirrors’ until then.
