Green Day front man, Billie Joe Armstrong, has checked into rehab following his INSANE outburst at iHeartRadio Festival in Las Vegas.
Armstrong launched an expletive-ridden tirade against the festival organizers on Friday (September 21), after he found out Green Day’s set was being cut short to make way for Usher. The front man then stormed off stage, having smashed his (undoubtedly very expensive) guitar to smithereens.
But it seems the tantrum may have been the result of some deeper issues for Armstrong. Last night (September 23), an official statement was released by Green Day, confirming that he was being treated for substance abuse:
“Billie Joe is seeking treatment for substance abuse. We would like everyone to know that our set was not cut short by Clear Channel and to apologise to those we offended at the iHeartRadio Festival in Las Vegas.”
The statement added Green Day will be cancelling all forthcoming promotional appearances in support of their new album, ¡Uno!, which is out today (September 24).
Meanwhile, a source over at Chicago Sun-Times claims Armstrong has been troubled for some time:
“Billie Joe has been a loose cannon for a long time. It’s gone long past time when he should be getting some serious help.”
But Armstrong’s wife, Adrienne, tweeted last night that Billie Joe simply needs time to “reset” himself:
Sometimes we just need a moment to reset ourselves… Thanks for all the love & support #gdfamily

We hope he gets better soon!
