The gangster lifestyle isn’t necessarily the first thing you’d associate with Leona Lewis, but according to the X-Factor winner herself, she could quite easily have got caught up with such a crowd had she not been so streetwise.
Yes, in an interview which suggests someone is perhaps trying to get rid of her slightly boring reputation, Lewis has told The Sun’s Fabulous magazine that she’s a lot tougher than she looks:
“I’m a Hackney girl. I can handle myself. If I was in a club and someone pulled a gun, I would stay calm because it’s not out of my world.
“I grew up having to be streetwise, having to know how to handle myself.”
The 27-year-old, who this week was romantically linked with that well-known hard-nut, One Direction’s Liam Payne, also claimed that she could quite easily have followed the same self-destructive path as Amy Winehouse:
“It would have been very easy for me because of where I come from.
“It would probably have been very easy for me to have been like Amy, but I just wouldn’t do that.”
Lewis’s claims echo the sentiment of her new single, ‘Trouble,’ which is released tomorrow, but considering the most controversial statement of her career has been ‘Horses are 100% better than people,’ colour us unconvinced.
