Prepare for the use of AutoTune in the charts to decrease by about 50% following Lil Wayne’s announcement that he is to take a break from the music industry.

Yes, the New Orleans MC is set to semi-retire from the hip-hop scene after telling Atlanta radio station Hot 107.9 that he’s become bored with the whole rap game:

“Being me, I always feel like I ain’t done nothing yet, so I’m always looking for the next thing to do.

“It does get pretty boring when it comes to just the rapping and all that type of stuff. I’ve been doing it since I was 8 and I’m about to be 30 in September.”

Having appeared on an incredible 105 singles as a guest artist, the Young Money founder then went on to echo what most of us are thinking, admitting he might have spread himself a little too thinly lately:

“I think I deserve that. I think fans deserve a little-to-no Wayne. I’ve been everywhere. I’ve been out on everybody’s song. I’m still on everybody’s song.”

Since when did rappers become so self-aware? So what does the new mature ‘approaching 30-year-old’ Lil Wayne intend to do now he won’t be offering such words of wisdom as “Clack goes the black hoe pimp:”

“My artists are doing awesome; I believe the fans deserve some peace from me, so I’ll be on my skateboard in the meantime.”

Looks like the skate parks close to his many homes should expect to see a lot more bling in the near future.
