Melanie C insists Victoria wasn’t being a sourpuss at Viva Forever! launch

Melanie C has leapt to the defence of her fellow Spice Girl Victoria Beckham, insisting that the artist formerly known as Posh Spice wasn’t being a sourpuss at the launch of their jukebox musical, Viva Forever!, earlier this week.

Posing in front of the same staircase that famously appeared in their ‘Wannabe’ video, Geri, Emma and the two Mels appeared understandably excited to be promoting the West End production, which opens at London’s Piccadilly Theatre in December.

However Victoria sulked her way through the shoot, refusing to smile even once for the cameras and avoiding any interaction with the rest of the group, whilst also leaving the hotel just 30 seconds after the presentation had finished.

But despite displaying a look of resentment you’d expect to be reserved only for Rebecca Loos, Melanie C used the good old celebrity excuse of ‘exhaustion’ for her moody band-mate’s behaviour in an interview with the Daily Mirror:

“It’s annoying when people say Victoria wasn’t smiling or didn’t want to be there. She really did. It was a flying visit and both her and Melanie [B] were exhausted as they’d flown in from Los Angeles. She was so tired but, among us, she was on great form. It’s great that she decided to make the trip at all.”

Produced by Mamma Mia’s Judy Craymer and written by Jennifer Saunders, the stage show interweaves the cautionary tale of a fictional girlband who enter a TV talent show with some of the group’s biggest hits, but it’s not yet been confirmed whether any of the characters will walk around with a permanent scowl.
