One Direction fans aren’t exactly covering themselves in glory at the moment.

Just last week, it emerged that a fan magazine had printed an article dedicated to insulting Harry Styles’ former girlfriend Caroline Flack, whilst there have been several reports of jealous girls targeting the rest of the boyband’s other halves through various social networking sites.

Now, Zayn Malik himself has deleted his Twitter account after claiming he has received similarly abusive comments in a statement posted last night:

“The reason I don’t tweet as much as I use to, is because I’m sick of all the useless opinions and hate that I get daily. Goodbye twitter. Fans that have something nice to say can tweet me on the One Direction account.”

It is not yet known what specific comments drove the 19-year-old to quit the site, but his departure came on the same day that Perez Hilton posted footage on his blog of Zayn allegedly hitting on a girl who wasn’t his current squeeze, Little Mix’s Perrie Edwards.

In a matter of hours after his announcement, the One Directioners then got #comebackZayn and #Zayncomeback trending. But for now, it appears that the platform which helped to launch the group worldwide is going to have to make do without one of its most followed heart-throbs.
